The Armed Forces of Colombia and Peru hold joint actions in the frontier                                        El Comercio, Perú, May 20, 2009

Starting today and for the next two months, forces of both countries will cover 2.200 kms of the rivers Amazon and Putumayo. The Armed Forces of Colombia and Peru started civic actions today in the Amazon and Putumayo rivers to strengthen the presence of both states and reinforce security. Eight naval units, four from each country, intervene in the task, which will go for over two months and go through 2.200 kilometres of those rivers.

Alan García promises to improve the defensive military capacity of Peru

The President of Peru, Alan García, promised that when his government is done in 2011 he will leave the Armed Forces with a better defence capacity. “We may conclude this Government not only with great infrastructure works and great social objectives, but also by giving the next governments a much greater operative level, which guarantees and protects the economic growth of our homeland and also shows our greatness to the world” said García.

Chavez will meet Correa on the 23 and 24
El Comercio, Ecuador, May 21, 2009

The Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry stated yesterday that Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez will make his visit to Ecuador on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24. First, through a press release, the Presidency of the Republic had signalled that the Venezuelan Leader would be in the country between Sunday 24 and Monday 25. According to preliminary information, President Rafael Correa and his Venezuelan colleague will review all issues of the bilateral relation. However, it is expected that the topic of energy cooperation will capture the interest of both heads of State.                                                          more>>  

Baduel will go to trial for alleged take-out of FAN funds
El Universal, Venezuela, May 21, 2009

By force, handcuffed and under threat of being accused of a new crime: attack of a sentinel, General (r) Raúl Isaías Baduel was taken this Tuesday to the First Control Military Tribunal located in Fuerte Tiuna, to a preliminary hearing for alleged take-out of funds from the FAN (National Armed Forces of Venezuela), faults against military decorum and abuse of power. This was denounced by the lawyer of the former Defence minister, Omar Mora Tosta, after calling the action a “violation of all rights.”                                                             more>>
