Chavez takes control of Caracas from its mayor  El País, España, April 15, 2009

If it is not with votes, Hugo Chávez will exert control over institutions ran by the opposition via new laws. On Monday night, the president of Venezuela promulgated a special law which gives him the faculty to appoint a chief of Government for the city of Caracas, who will have the competencies, goods and budget which are now in charge of one of the strongest opposition leaders: the mayor of Caracas, Antonio Ledezma.

Invitation of Al-Bashir denounced in UN

The past 31st of March, Chávez announced he wanted to invite Al-Bashir to show him support. For this reason the Democratic Platform of Venezuelans in Madrid has sent a letter to the president of the ICC, Sang-Hyung Song, so that he may forward this matter to the UN Security Council, towards establishing the pertinent responsibilities and sanctions. The letter, sent by Venezuelan lawyer Williams Cárdenas, representing the Platform, and with the support of the 53 NGO’s which make part of the international ‘Indict Chávez’ campaign (‘Juzgar a Chávez’), has also been sent to Akua Kuenyehia, president magistrate of the Preliminary Issues Section I of the International Criminal Court, which issued the arrest warrant against the Sudanese president.

Sendero Luminoso claims Thursday’s attack against Army which left 14 dead
El Comercio, Perú, April 14, 2009

Terrorist group Sendero Luminoso has claimed the attack of two Army patrols past Thursday, which left 14 dead, according to statements of one of its leaders being published today in the local press.  The chief of the armed band known as Sendero Luminoso in the valley of the Apurímac and Ene rivers (an area known as VRAE), Víctor Quispe Palomino, aka ‘Comrade Joseph’, supposedly got in touch with ‘Jornada’, a local newspaper in the Ayacucho region, as that newspaper ascertained in its web page.                                        more>>
