KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – As Afghanistan's narcotics trade explodes past $3 billion a year, there is concern that the Taliban is becoming another FARC, Colombia's notorious leftist insurgent group that draws much of its funding from the drug trade. The Taliban and FARC - the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia - both got their start protecting peasants from corrupt governments. Nov. 24 (Bloomberg) -- Telesur, a news channel sponsored by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, said Colombia's detention of its local correspondent on suspicion of terrorism is illegal and aims to tarnish the channel's image. Freddy Munoz, who helped found the Colombian operations of Caracas-based Telesur more than a year ago, was detained Nov. 19 upon his arrival from Caracas on allegations he took part in terrorist acts in two Colombian cities four years ago. The move was an ``aggression to freedom of speech,'' Telesur President Andres Izarra said today at a news conference in Caracas. ver más>>
